People and tribes

Kenya is an example of multi-ethnic county. This area is inhabited by population descended from Bantu, Nilotic and Cushitic groups. In Kenya there are almost 70 different tribes, the most powerful are Kikuyu (21%) and Luo (14%). This country is also multi- faith with 18,3 million Protestants, 9,01 million Catholics, 4,3 million Muslims and 53,393 Hindus.

Amboseli

Amboseli National Park is situated in Loitoktok District, Rift Valley Province of Kenya. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa which gives possibility to get close to free-ranging elephants among wildlife. Amboseli is home to over 50 species of mammal and 400 species of bird. Tourists visiting this place have an opportunity to meet the Maasai people and to admire breathtaking view of the highest free-standing mountain in the world- Mount Kilimanjaro. Best time to go there is from June to October.

Tsavo

It is located in Coast Province of Kenya, lies to the east of the Nairobi- Mombasa road. Tsavo is famous for its two separate parks divided into Tsavo East National Park which is one of the oldest and the largest parks in Kenya, and Tsavo West National Park. Tsavo East is flat, dry, more accessible and slightly larger than Tsavo West. Its counterpart is mountainous and wet. It is also famous for its bird life and large mammals: black rhino, Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard and hippo. Best time to go there is from May to October.

Lake Bogoria

Lake Bogoria is a saline water and shallow situated in the northern part of Kenyan Rift Valley. This place is famous for its geysers, hot springs and fantastic views over the hills. Lake Bogoria has the most spectacular and breathtaking geothermal activity in Kenya. Moreover most local people believe that inhalation in such place can have healing properties for breathing as well as skin problems. The other attraction is that one may see pink flamingoes which are found in large numbers but also leopards, antelopes and warthogs.

Lake Naivasha

Lake Naiwasha is a beautiful fresh-water lake in Kenya which lies north west of Nairobi. This place is part of Africa’s Great Rift Valley and is the highest point in the Kenyan Rift (1.890 meters above the sea). Its surface area is 139 sq. km. Lake Naivasha is home to a wide variety of wildlife including over 400 different species of bird and numerous hippos. There is a possibility of taking a boat trip on the lake which is unforgettable experience and  a great way to spend an afternoon or morning. The best time to visit is usually July to February and also July to September when it is possible to observe wildebeest migration.

Masai Mara

Masai Mara is located in south-west Kenya on the border with Tanzania. It is one of the Greatest Wildlife Reserves in Africa. Between July and October wildebeest and zebra are at their largest number and it is possible to watch their migration which is unforgettable experience. In Masai Mara there are all members of so called “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and black rhino.)

The second largest city in Kenya after Nairobi is Mombasa. The city is located on the eastern coastline of Kenya bordering the Indian Ocean. White sandy beaches and clear water make Mombasa a popular destination. It is a typical exotic taste of the African tropics. The city offers many tourist attractions.
